" The federal government today revealed negotiations were taking place between Canberra and Washington for a new defence training agreement at Queensland's Shoalwater Bay joint US military training site, north of Rockhampton.

The agreement could see 20,000 US troops descend on the area in 2007 to experiment with self-guided smart bombs, and live or "dummy" bombing raids from US aircraft carriers.
